
According to the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB), government-owned paddy outlets would remain open for the purchase of paddy from farmers as of today, June 6.
Accordingly, the government would open paddy depots in Kilinochchi, Batticaloa, Ampara, Kurunegala, and Puttalam, where paddy harvesting is now underway, said Manjula Pinnalanda, chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board.
He added that Rs. 5 billion has been set aside by the Treasury to buy paddy.
During a special media briefing yesterday (05), the government formally announced the pricing at which the Paddy Marketing Board will buy paddy from farmers.
The cost of buying Nadu paddy is Rs. 120 per kilogram.
The price of samba paddy will be Rs. 125 per kilogram.
A kilogram of Keeri Samba paddy will cost Rs. 132.
