TEDxColombo, one of the most prominent and long-standing TEDx events in Sri Lanka, proudly announces the 13th edition of its flagship event, scheduled for Sunday, June 1st, 2025, at the iconic Nelum Pokuna Theatre. Known for pushing boundaries and sparking dialogue, TEDxColombo 2025 promises another unforgettable day of insight, inspiration, and bold new ideas- brought to you by a carefully curated lineup of speakers that truly embody this year’s theme- challenging the way we see the world, one ‘mad’ idea at a time.
Since its inception in 2009, TEDxColombo has remained dedicated to spotlighting powerful local voices and homegrown stories that resonate far beyond our shores. Talks from previous editions have reached global audiences through the TED platform, sparking meaningful conversations and even shifting perspectives in communities around the world. In its thirteenth year, TEDxColombo invites us all to look at the world through a different lens.
Under this year’s theme, “MADness,” explores the shifting boundaries of what society deems possible, logical, or even sane. Throughout history, ideas once dismissed as ‘mad’ have evolved into the very cornerstones of progress. This year’s TEDxColombo embraces that tension between the absurd and the revolutionary, highlighting the creative energy found in ideas so unconventional that they challenge the way we understand the world. As society evolves, our definition of ‘madness’ changes too. What was once deemed impossible is now part of everyday life, and it is in this transformation where true innovation thrives.
Safra Anver, the Organizer for TEDxColombo, expressed her excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “The immersive experience we have planned will fuel the minds of the audience and inspire them to think beyond boundaries. We invite all the ‘MAD’ ones as we celebrate the ideas that start on the fringes, the ones that provoke disbelief and scepticism, until they finally become the new normal. After all, every great leap forward begins with an idea so mad, it just might change the world.”
The event promises an immersive day filled with live talks from a diverse group of speakers, carefully selected TED Talk screenings, and vibrant social spaces that encourage meaningful connections among attendees. With an in-person audience of over 1,000 expected and thousands more engaging online, TEDxColombo continues to be a gathering point for curious minds, bold thinkers, and passionate changemakers.

About TEDx
TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
