Supporting the “donate a book for change” CSR campaign to donate books and valuable reading material to schools in rural areas, Sri Lanka’s leading private bank HNB PLC recently partnered with one of the country’s leading premium bookstores – M. D. Gunasena.

The two companies penned their partnership at the HNB Head Office in the company of HNB Deputy General Manager – Retail and SME Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne, HNB Head of Network Management and Business Development, Supun Dias, HNB Senior Manager Head Office Customer Centre, Dilanka De Silva along with M. D. Gunasena Managing Director, Rajiv Gunasena, M. D. Gunasena Director, Hasitha Nanayakkara and M. D. Gunasena Director, Yevinda Amarasekara.

HNB Deputy General Manager – Retail and SME Banking, Sanjay Wijemanne said, “M. D. Gunasena has been holding its “Donate a book for change” program for around 2 years, with the goal of assisting school children from rural districts in Sri Lanka. This brilliant initiative will power the futures of students around the nation and we are happy to be a part of this life-altering opportunity.”

HNB will be setting down branded boxes at chosen HNB branches encouraging both customers and HNB staff to donate boxes for this deserving cause and will have a hand in enhancing the literacy level of the community by assisting children in rural schools all around the nation.

M. D. Gunasena Managing Director, Rajiv Gunasena said, “HNB is a bank with a long-standing relationship with schools around the island and we believe this partnership is the perfect chance to take advantage of this relationship to help us in carrying out this initiative. We are thankful for any support we can receive to offer rural students books to enhance their knowledge.”

Cooperatively HNB and M. D. Gunasena will recognize and choose the schools that will get the donated books from the collection and offer them to the lucky school children who will reap the benefits through this program for several years to come. HNB has a time-honored interest in CSR campaigns much like this where they have renovated around 200 school libraries and donated books to the school.

Customers can now go into any HNB branch and donate new or second-hand books which are in a good state to be a part of this admirable initiative.
